Looking For Residential Plumbing, Hawaii? Solving Problems in the (808)

Need residential plumbing, Hawaii?  When it comes to home plumbing, we all want to save money.  Some plumbing problems can be repaired by a reasonably knowledgeable person.  But, some should be taken care of by a professional plumber.  And, some are required to be taken care of by a licensed plumber.  Here’s a Video summary (followed by a little more detailed explanation below):

Here are a few instances it’s best to call a licensed plumber when it comes to residential plumbing:

Residential Plumbing Hawaiian Tip 1:

Do you have the necessary knowledge to complete the job?  In other words, do you honestly have an idea on what you’ll be encountering and the challenges you’ll be facing?  Are you willing to take time to learn potential problems you may face?  Are you careful with details because what you may think of as a little mistake can turn into a major damage (water damage).

Residential Plumbing Hawaiian Tip 2:

Do you have all the necessary equipment to complete the job?  The right tools will make you life so much easier.  If you do have the tools, have you used them before or know how to use them?  If you need to buy tools, how often are you expecting to use it.  It may be cheaper to have the plumber use his tools if you’re going to use it once every two years or so.

Residential Plumbing Hawaiian Tip 3:

There are some plumbing jobs where a permit is required.  These jobs include, but not limited to, remodeling of bathrooms, moving existing plumbing, or adding a new gas line.  Obviously, these are big jobs and you’re likely to hire a professional anyway.  But if you think the job you’re doing is “minor,” it just makes sense to check with the state before starting the project.

Residential Plumbing Hawaiian Tip 4:

We all experienced backed up drains.  Often, all you need is a plunger or a plumbers snake to clear the clog.  But, when you have multiple drains backing up at the same time, there may be a main line blockage.  Clearing the main line usually requires special equipment.  It is advised that a profession take care of this.

Residential Plumbing Hawaiian Tip 5:

When it comes to replacing a shower valve, it can be complex and time consuming for the inexperienced.  An experienced plumber can help you pick out the right valve for your particular shower.  There are so many choices out there that it can be confusing if you are not sure what to look for.  There’s also the possibility of doing irreparable damage.

We hope these tips help you determine when to call a professional for a residential plumbing problem.  Contact us and see why we are the best plumbing company, Hawaii.

Best Plumbers In Honolulu Tips

5 simple tips for customers, courtesey of “Best Plumbers in Honolulu.”

1. To get the most accurate estimate (so you won’t be surprised after the job is done), give the plumber as much information as possible, i.e. the kind of pipes you have, is the leak coming from a spot where the plumber has to crawl or is it easily accessible, etc.  If they cannot give you an estimate over the phone, ask if they charge for travel time.  This is, of course, if they do not explicitly say they give free estimates.

2. If you think the job looks small, ask them if they have a minimum charge.  You don’t want to be hit with a surprise if you’re just trying to dislodge a visible object.

3.  Ask the plumber if they are insured.  Accidents do happen and you want to be sure their injuries are covered by their insurance, or that their insurance will pay in case they damage your property.  Also, check with the State of Hawaii to see if they are licensed.  You can check for licensed plumbers here.

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for credentials.  If you have a unique job, ask if they have any experience with that particular kind of work, especially if it is a high end plumbing system.

5. Ask the Plumber if they carry parts in their vehicle.  And, if they don’t have a part and have to make a trip to the store, do they charge extra for that?
